Murmuration Chandelier

A kinetic lighting sculpture made by Harvey & John, commissioned by The Collective.
Like a murmuration of starlings, the chandelier moves in and out of seeming disorder to form precise patterns and shapes.

The Murmuration Chandelier consists of 20 patinated stainless steel rings. Each ring has a micro-controller, motor and RGB lights. Each ring hangs on the one above, meaning, the further down the sculpture the faster the rotation.

The entire sculpture can be controlled via a custom made app to change the colour, as well as the speed and direction of movement.
I developed the control software for this project for Harvey & John.
This includes the code on the embedded microcontrollers inside the each ring as well the accompanying iPad application.
